Vicente Caragol

Software Engineer

Building internal developer tools, IDE integrations, and CI/CD pipelines for global engineering teams.

01 / about

About me

I'm a software engineer with a background in electrical engineering and two years of experience building and maintaining internal tools for global R&D teams — IDE extensions, version control infrastructure, and CI/CD pipelines.

I have working knowledge of machine learning and data science, backend APIs, DevOps, source control platform administration, and the internal rollout of agentic AI tools, including MCP-based workflows. I have a strong background in root cause analysis and troubleshooting in complex systems.

I'm looking for a team where I can keep growing as a well-rounded engineer while contributing to meaningful, high-impact work.

Based in Santiago, Chile

03 / journey

Experience & education

  1. Senior Software Engineer, Synopsys Central Engineering

    Jul 2024 — Present

    Synopsys Inc.

Built a VSCode extension that integrates with an internal compiler, used by 300+ engineers monthly running 3,000+ builds per month. Participated in the internal rollout of agentic AI tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor), including an internal licensing portal for 10,000+ users and training labs on IDE workflows and MCP integrations. Handled 800+ L1/L2 support requests, administered the Perforce source control platform, and maintained internal tooling documentation.

  2. BSc in Electrical Engineering, Minor in Computer Science

    2016 — 2023

    Universidad de Chile

Thesis: optimizing data balancing techniques for an XGBoost-based stellar light-curve classifier, addressing class imbalance in astronomical light-curve time series.

  3. ML Demand Forecasting Intern

    Jan 2021 — Mar 2021

    Coordinador Eléctrico Nacional

Implemented a machine learning model for electricity demand forecasting, achieving a 4.17% weighted error (MAPE) — a 35% improvement over the prior external model's 6.43%.

Continuous learning

I'm always trying to level up — picking up new certifications, courses, and side reading to keep my fundamentals sharp and stay current with the tools I use.
